Well, today is the day. I will not cry, because for one reason he's only going as far as Georgia today and by comparison that's a lot less threatening than when he leaves for Afghanistan.
I also support his search for whatever it is that he's looking for that will carry him there and will hold him in prayer as he goes.
I will celebrate his courage, and send him mine when he is tired, send him love when he is lonely, for surely love is not too strong a word for someone to send another in that situation. Love of country and the love of the people who provide it (in the field) are one and the same for me.
Nope, no tears, lest they be tears of joy that in beginning to leave he is also closer to returning and that if not to me, to his children, grandchildren and students, which is by far reason enough for joy.
